Snow at Hume House for the last time?

Well word came through yesterday.

The new building that will house FM104's new offices is going to be ready in about 4 weeks. I can't deny that a nice, tidy new office is a massive appeal. Studio gear that echoes the year 2009 (our current one has served us well but it certainly does not do the former!) is going to make our jobs as DJs a lot easier as we will be using computers for everything for the first time.

But while many of us put stuff we don't need anymore into bags this week particularly for on air people, it's probably tinged with some sadness. JNLR is the scary bit about radio - it's like the Leaving Cert for DJs.. except is comes every three months! You find out how many people are tuning into your show and it's fair to say under the guidance of our Programme Director Dave 'Buddy' Kelly since he took the reigns in Hume House at the start of the century, we haven't seen too many bad JNLRs. I'm not someone who avoids walking under a ladder on the street or thinks I'm going to have bad luck if I break a mirror but I do wear odd socks on the day that Dave and myself go to collect the JNLR figures in Blackrock. It's a secret you now know that hasn't failed me yet! I can't help but think we need a bit of luck leaving a building that has brought us so many good times and success going into a flash new building. Think of it as leaving a wise old man who has guided you along the straight and narrow and taking a chance on the young pup who looks great, promises a lot but doesn't have the experience to back it up. Everyone has to start somewhere though don't they?

For all the radio anoraks out there when I can I'll put some pics from our new building and studios (Macken House is the name of it by the way and if you ever win a prize on FM104 once we're there, the Luas will drop you literally and I really do mean literally, outside our door) up on the blog.

For the moment, because I can't wear odd socks every single day I'm going to bring this with me. It's an old Sonifex cart I found stuffed down the side of a drawer in my office. Back in the really early days, SONGS were played off these (I wasn't around I'm glad to say) but I am doing this long enough that I remember using them for ads and promos.

Ms Theron....

I thought she might grab your attention alright!!

Now here's the deal. Last year I was nominated for a Meteor Award. I didn't win it. I was beaten by KC a former colleague from somewhere called Cork(?)....

Anyway, it's going to be highly embarrassing if I lose AGAIN........

So please please please please please (I am begging and making no attempts to hide it) vote for me using one of two options...

Log onto www.fm104.ie and vote online for free - you can do this once a day up until March 11th.

OR

text VOTE RDJ 4 to 085 7114444 and yes if you're on Meteor this is free!!

I would really appreciate it as the endless stick I will get in the office if I lose again is not worth talking about... :(

Thanks for reading,

Mark
